Is it possible to add a "orphan" Task, e.g., a task that's not subordinated to a project.

All tasks must have projects.

You can always create a bogus project to support these orphan tasks, say the "Orphanate Project" or "My Adhoc Tasks Project"...

I keep a default project called "CaseySoftware" which I add those misc business related tasks to. Then I create projects using the DevProject Template that I created.
